The Venezuelan oil basket represents a combination of crude
oil and refined product exports sold at market differentials to
world benchmark prices.

World benchmark crude oil and refined product prices are
determined by futures contracts listed on the New York
Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and London's International
Petroleum Exchange (IPE).

IPE and NYMEX prices are available by double-clicking on
<OILOIL> and the latest market reports can be seen by
double-clicking on [O/L] and [O/N].

The government has based its 2002 budget on a price of $19
per barrel compared with a budget price of $20 in 2001.
